Principal Giesler in the Dunk Tank

The Dunk Tank was a huge success at the Garrison Mill Fall Festival.   It was a lot of fun and the kids (and some adults!) really enjoyed dunking their favorite teachers and GM staff.  Special thanks to the  Fritz family for donating the dunk tank!

Fall Festival is this week!  There will be a Teacher Dunk Tank sponsered by the GMEF!!!!!  Look for your favorite teacher to dunk!!!

The GMEF would like to extend a warm welcome to Kyle Giesler, our new Principal!  He is a product of  the Cobb County School District, having attended  Blackwell Elementary, J. J. Daniell Middle, and Sprayberry High.   He went to University of Georgia and came to us from Rocky Mount Elementary School.  Welcome Kyle!

Ok so you don’t want to admit that you haven’t but just a small clue regarding what is a Promethean Board. You aren’t alone! As parents we might not be “in the know” but the teachers & kids are!!! 

Boards Get Brains, Chalk Vanishes by David Cohn, Wired online magazine, explains how interactive whiteboards can help differentiate classroom learning to make it more engaging. See excerpts:

• …the real virtue of the interactive whiteboard is in showing students how to use the computer.

• “Instead of handing a kid a laptop and saying ‘good luck,’ it’s nice to be able to model something for them,” Bang said.

• And because the system works like a computer, most teachers have little problem picking it up right away and using it to teach their students.

• “That is part of what is ingenious about Smart Technologies’ board — it is immediately familiar,” said Columbia elementary school’s Mishler.

The Garrison Mill Educational Foundation is pleased to announce the funding of several programs for the 2011 – 2012 school year. In making our decision of what to fund both educational standards and teacher input were taken into consideration. First in Math will be renewed with Internet access granted to 1st – 5th graders both at school and at home. A new program, Brain Pop and Brain Pop Jr, will be available to students and teachers at school. Brain Pop and Brain Pop Jr. covers Science, Social Studies, English, Math, Engineering & Tech, Health and Arts & Music with fun interactive programs. The last funded program by the Foundation will be an additional High Touch – High Tech Science class for each grade level. Please look for us in August at Sneak a Peek. We will be located in the Media Room. Here you will be able to:
